The "Resilience" Collection

The "Resilience" Collection is a mixed-media art project that combines original artwork with words of encouragement between loved ones.

Printed in a 5x7 format, these gifts contain your enduring messages and are easily mailed so you can reconnect with the people and milestones you miss.

This collection is a product of my resilience as an artist during the COVID-19 pandemic and periods of self-isolation. It is inspired by stories of resilience in my community. The goal of the project is to facilitate connection between people who are unable to see one another or who want to send each other messages of resilience during this challenging period. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this project will go to the Orange County Arts Commission Artist Relief Fund, to support the work of other artists in my community.

ADAPT

v. to adjust oneself to different conditions, environments, etc.

What it means to me

"Adapt" is a celebration of our flexibility and willingness to accommodate changes.

It is a gift for the couple who has had to cancel or postpone their wedding, the graduate who will have to delay their celebration, or the friend who now works from home among their pets and kids.

Send this piece to a loved one whose "resilience" is best captured by their ability to adapt.

BREATHE

v. to pause or take rest; to have relief from anxiety, pressure, or tension

What it means to me

"Breathe" is a celebration of our ability to stay in the discomfort and self-soothe when we are challenged by something we cannot change.

It is a gift for an individual who needs extra encouragement getting through the here and now --  someone who is ill, who has lost their job, who needs a boost, or who is experiencing the discomfort that accompanies growth.

Send this piece to a loved one who needs to breathe as they search for their "resilience."

PERSIST

v. to last or endure tenaciously

What it means to me

"Persist" is a celebration of our ability to weather our individual struggles.

It is a gift for someone experiencing a breakthrough in their personal or professional life -- someone who overcame great obstacles to get to where they are or someone who stands tall despite being faced with obstacles.

Send this piece to a loved one whose "resilience" can be distilled down to their ability to persist in the face of adversity.

RENEW

v. to begin again, restore or replenish

What it means to me

"Renew" is a celebration of the human impulse to stand back up when we get knocked down.

It is a gift for an individual who is unyielding in their ability to start again, to return to places of comfort for strength, or to bring a fresh perspective to weary tasks.

Send this piece to a loved one who makes you feel renewed and whole and contributes to your "resilience" with the freshness of their insights.

TRUST

v. to have confidence or hope

What it means to me

"Trust" is a celebration  of one of the most beautiful human traits -- an ability to turn something over and have faith that things will be as they should.

It is a gift for a person in your life who keeps their eye on the prize or who makes sacrifices with the knowledge that their contributions will pay off.

Send this gift to the care-worker or clergy member you admire, the health professionals who trust in their ability to heal, the service member who works for a greater good, or any other person whose "resilience" is captured by the idea of trusting in the service they provide.

Additional Recommended Products

I recommend two additional products for purchase with this collection.

The first is an acid-free, felt tip pen that will preserve your message for years to come.

The second is a sleek, easy to open, 5x7 frame. Your artwork will float on any surface and the frame will allow you to easily reopen the card and reread your timeless message.
